Coco was a quiet person and that’s the way she liked it. There were lots of quiet activities she liked to do, like reading, drawing, and baking. A lot of the time, she did these activities alone, and that was ok for her.

Normally, Coco came to feed the ducks by herself, but today, Penny wanted to come to.  They brought a bag of feed with them and sat next to the edge of the pond. The little duckies floated by. Penny grabbed a handful and threw it next to the ducks.

One of them came over and began to eat. Then the others wanted some too. Penny giggled and smiled as the ducks swam by. “Look at that one! It’s so cute!”

Coco smiled as she saw one dive down and stick its bum in the air. But she didn’t reply back to Penny. “Oh, and this one! It has cute specks on it back!” exclaimed Penny.

Coco still didn’t reply. She wanted to be quiet today, but didn’t want to be mean to Penny. She felt a little embarrassed.

“Do you mind if we are quiet while we feed the ducks?” asked Coco, “I want to be quiet for a while.”

“Sure!” replied Penny, “I just thought something was wrong.”

They spent the rest of the time there quietly tossing the feed to the ducks. Sometimes they would get excited about how a duck reacted, but after a while the conversation would fade and they’d sit quietly again.

After they finished using all the feed, they walked home. “Thanks for sitting quietly with me today, Penny,” said Coco, “I had a really good time.”

“It was nice being quiet from time to time,” said Penny.

Coco was happy to hear it. She was also happy to still spend time with her friend. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be a loud activity. You can have just has much fun being quiet. For Coco was a quiet person and that’s the way she liked it.
